Has WhatsApp become the major source for you to stay connected with friends and family? Then, its time for you to immediately check your smartphone before it gets too late to act. Wondering why we said this? Well, if your phone is too old, it will not support WhatsApp anymore.
As per a blog post by WhatsApp in February, support for the following mobile platforms will stop working after December 31:
• BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
• Nokia S40
• Nokia Symbian S60
• Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
• Windows Phone 7.1
• iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
The blog further said that “While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future.”
“This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp," as revealed by the company via the blog post.
However, the above-mentioned smartphones won’t be completely blocked. It is only that the users of these handsets will lose out on a lot of new features.
So, quickly change you old phone with a new one if you want to stay connected with friends and family. As of February 2016, WhatsApp had a user base of one billion, making it the most popular messaging application.
