India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki has launched its urban compact car in the country, with pricing starting from Rs. 4.59 lakh to Rs. 7.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Keeping up with the fast changing preferences from customers, Maruti is challenging itself by creating a new segment.
Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa , went on to say, “We are aware that the life and priorities of our customers are fast evolving. If we have to keep pace, we must demolish traditional categories and think afresh. Just like the customer is thinking”.
Going on to answer the questions, pertaining Maruti Suzuki’s focus shift from the existing core segment to premium segment, Kenichi Ayukawa added, “My response to this question is...the challenging spirit at Maruti Suzuki. We have taken this challenge to create newer segments to fulfil the wishes of our customers”.
"While we retain the positives from the past, it is more critical that we are alive to the present and ready for the future. This has defined our working style in the last few years as we move towards our medium-term goal of two million unit sales in 2020," Ayukawa said.
Ignis will be retailed on Maruti Suzukis nexa premium retail chain and will come in both petrol and diesel options with auto gear shift options too. The petrol version will include a 1.2 litre engine that will start at Rs. 4.59 lakh to Rs. 6.69 lakhs and the diesel version would include a 1.3 litre engine with prices starting at Rs. 6.39 lakh to Rs. 7.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Given the prices, Ignis will go head on with Renaults very popular KWID, that lately made a mark with its SUV inspired looks.
