After storming the internet last year with its AI-powered
photo-editing filters, Russian app
Prisma will now start charging for its filters through an in-app filter store. So far, the artistic filters that completely transformed your regular photos into works of art has been free. But not anymore. In addition, the app is also offering the ability to create one’s own custom filters and the option of rating filters. The custom filter tool is currently available to a limited set of users with a wide rollout expected sometime soon.
Per a report by The Next Web, Prisma is also planning on introducing a new filter every week and eventually offer a new one every day. Users will also be able to share the filters used and even delete them if they find them unsuitable.
The custom-filter creation tool is a desktop app that has been launched and distributed among a small set of users. The tool will be made available on smartphones to all users soon. Using the desktop app, users will be able to leverage sliders to create their own filters and even preview what the final image will look like. However, it’s not really feasible as it takes around one-and-a-half hours to analyse an image.
Prisma launched last year first for
iOS users and was then ported over for
Android users. The app was a runaway hit the moment it launched as nobody even imagined machine learning could be used to enhance their photos to turn them into works of art similar to that of great artists like Van Gogh, Edvard Munch and the likes. However, it soon lost its momentum after a few months but managed to stay afloat by introducing quite a few useful features since its launch.
