Microsoft stated at GDC 2017, that it’ll begin shipping development kits for Windows Mixed Reality , starting March. The brand has collaborated with Acer for the headsets and it’ll be bundling these headsets along with the development kit.

Moreover, the Redmond giant has further stated that the Mixed Reality experiences will also be hitting Microsoft’s Xbox One and the upcoming Project Scorpio by 2018.

As mentioned earlier, the headset that’ll ship starting this month is manufactured in collaboration with Acer. The headset will have also have access to Windows 10 Insider Preview builds and SDK’s for the developers to create content in Mixed Reality.

Unlike Virtual Reality , where you can only see what is being displayed on the VR headset, and nothing from the outside world, Mixed Reality headsets allow you to view virtual content along with the existing real-life elements near you.

Earlier known as Windows Holographic, Mixed Reality headsets come with a pair of cameras at the front to track and locate objects, and users can create artificial workspaces using the headsets, and bring the real elements from the room into the virtual space using the live feed on the camera, delivering a more intuitive and realistic user experience.

Microsoft has also partnered with other OEM’s like Lenovo, Asus, HP and Dell for creating Mixed Reality headsets which will pair with Windows Mixed Reality-ready PCs.

The Acer Mixed Reality Development Edition headset features two LCD panels for each eye, sporting a resolution of 1440x1440 pixels. The display supports a refresh rate up to 90Hz. The headset also comes with a built-in audio out and microphone support through a 3.5mm headphone jack. The headset connects to a PC using an HDMI 2.0 port and a USB 3.0 port.
