Time certainly flies. Seems like it was just yesterday that Facebook Messenger was launched as a standalone app. Facebook users were encouraged to download it to keep in touch with their friends and family. Now it goes without saying that you would want it.
Messenger has come a long way since those early days. It has picked up hundreds of millions of users along the way. The actually number is 1.2 billion.
This is a huge milestone for the company since this means that Facebook Messenger is now as big as WhatsApp, another cross-platform messaging app that’s owned by Facebook. Both allow you to do the same thing, and there are countless users out there who have both the WhatsApp and Messenger apps on their smartphones.
Obviously Facebook made the right call when it decided to take the built-in messaging feature of its app and dish it out back in 2014. They can look back and be proud. Even Facebook’s main app is closing in on the 2 billion user mark.It currently sits at 1.9 billion. Instagram has a lot of catching up to do before it hits the one billion milestone since it’s currently at 600 million users. You never know, it may hit that mark soon.
