Anyone who has watched movies in the cinema or at home is familiar with THX. They are the audio company that was founded by George Lucas way back when. Now it looks like THX will have a new owner this year.
Razer has now announced that they will be acquiring the company.
Razer will not shift THX’s focus away from the movies though. According to Razer’s CEO Min-Liang Tan, for the most part, they will be leaving THX’s management and staff intact and will let them make their own business decisions. That’s probably a smart decision. Razer actually plans on helping THX grow by giving them access to the company’s global infrastructure.
THX’s CEO Ty Ahmad-Taylor hinted that maybe joint products could be something we can expect in the future. He also said, “They believe in the incredible collection of world-class audio-visual engineers, software developers, product leaders, and industry experts that make up THX, as well as the team that supports them operationally.” It seems like a good acquisition and they are approaching it in a smart common sense way. It will be interesting to see what they do with this. THX is a highly recognized brand with a great history.
