As we are counting days to step into 2017, a lot of companies have started announcing as what went big this year on their platform. Following this usual practice, even Apple is out with its ‘Best of 2016’ list that comprises the top apps, games, music and movies that were released this year.
Here at Gizmodo India, we decide to take a look at Apple’s best music and movies of 2016. While ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ by Pritam and Arijit Singh is the Best Song on iTunes, Amit Trivedi’s ‘Udta Punjab’ is the Best Album on iTunes this year.
In the category of movies, Apple lists ‘Sultan’ as the Best Bollywood Blockbuster, ‘Sairat’ as the Best Regional Blockbuster, ‘Kapoor and Sons (Since 1921)’ as Best Family Drama, ‘Deadpool’ as the Best Action flick. Besides these movies ‘Star Trek Beyond, X-Men: Apocalypse’, ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’, ‘Fan’, ‘Eddie The Eagle’ and ‘U Turn’ made it to the top 10 list. This was all that gained the attention of Indian audience.
On the global front, Drake dominates the top song and album spots with “One Dance” and Views, respectively, on Apple Music. Besides these, even the Hamilton soundtrack is also a top-selling album. The Chainsmokers have two of the top 10 songs this year, and music fans still can’t get enough of Adele’s 25, Rihanna’s ANTI and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
As far as the iTunes movies are concerned, inventive films like La La Land, Moonlight and Sing Street remained hit with international audience. And the top-selling charts feature huge blockbuster hits to buzzworthy indie titles, from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and ‘Deadpool’ to ‘Spotlight’ and ‘The Hateful Eight’. On the other hand, top editorial picks of , iTunes TV’s include groundbreaking shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and Atlanta, while longtime TV favorites Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Downton Abbey are top sellers.
